- Near some of the Rocky Mountains' best
ski hills in North America (1 1/2 hour).
- Calgary Zoo & Dinosaur Park
(10 minutes) – More than 1,200 animals from around
the world.
- Heritage Park – Step backwards
in time into a Western Canadian Village (20 minutes). More
than 150 buildings and exhibits recreate a complete village
from pre-1914 Western Canada. Ride a steam train, board
a stern wheeler for a trip on the Glenmore Reservoir, try
the antique fair for rides, visit the baker, dine at the
Wainwright Hotel and browse through the gift shop.
- The Calgary Tower (10 minutes) –
Opened in 1968, the tower is 190 metres high (626 feet;
762 steps). Visit the Observation Terrace for a breathtaking
view. The top of the tower features the revolving Panorama
Dining Room.
- Canada Olympic Park (10 minutes) –
The site of freestyle skiing, bobsleigh, luge and ski jumping
events during the 1988 XV Olympic Winter Games. The
park
offers a full-facility ski hill open to mid March. Located
in the city, it’s a convenient place to spend
a day or night on skis, snowboard or snowblades.
- Calaway Park (an amusement park 15
minutes away) – Western Canada’s largest
outdoor family amusement park is in its 18th year of providing
fun and
entertainment.
- Banff and Lake Louise – a 1 1/2
hour drive from Calgary. A must on every visitor's itinerary.
- Bar U Ranch – a Canadian National
Historic Site ( 1 1/2 hour).
- The Calgary Stampede (15 minutes) – The
greatest outdoor show on earth. 10 days in early July.
- Home to the Calgary Flames & Hitman and the Calgary
Stampeders.
